An epic isekai with an office worker reincarnated inside a VR MMORPG as a overpowered undead sorcerer of evil. Living in his guild fortress where all monsters and NPCs are his loyal underlings, feared by humans. He campaigns to find the other guild members, his old friends, in the game world.
Everything that other isekai anime with OP MCs are not, that is: good. The unparalleled power of One Punch Man with the teacher-figure of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu.
36 episodes total, 3 seasons, partial adaptation of a novel.
10/10★ - The most epic anti-hero anime.
Strengths: bad guys thinking they're strong and getting obliterated, dynamic between the main character and the underlings that look up to him.
Weakness: the overarching plot moves very slowly, so it's probably never going to be concluded, though the arcs are enjoyable..
Incredibly satisfying to watch. The main character carries the show by doing his part well, being competent, considerate, and at the same time very human.
What makes an overpowered main character great? In Overlord, it's his competency. Many MMORPG-based isekai anime feature only basic game features, and while it looks like a game, it also looks like it's being played by noobs. This isn't the case with Momonga, he is a veteran, leader of one of the greatest guilds. He knows his stuff.
This is show through the series by the extreme precaution he has. Facing the unknown, he assumes the worst and prepares to minimize damage, he uses the rare skill known as "strategy" besides his innate magic undead-sorcerer powers, which are displayed in all its level-100 glory with gorgeous explosions and whatnot.
He doesn't hide around like the coward of Death March. This main character is proud of his guild and won't sully its name. He acts in a grandiose way befitting the title of Overlord, the image of a king of the dead even the strongest human-killing demons kneel in front of, which's amazingly epic and only gets more epic in season two.
As such king, he thinks fondly and nostalgically about the various monsters inhabiting his guild's fortress, whom were created by his old friends and guild members who are now nowhere to be found. The impostor syndrome dynamic is amazing. An office worker who has to act like he is the most powerful undead in the world, lest he disappoint the image his underlings have of him. In a way like a father who doesn't want his children to find out he isn't the greatest father in the world.

An isekai game-fantasy action anime. Despite the overpowered main cast, not all battles are one-sided slaughters because sometimes human side-characters get to fight other humans. It's hard to call this an adventure from the point of view of Momonga, as he's too powerful to be in any danger at all. Sometimes it even looks like a slice-of-life.
This is not romance and is not ecchi. However, some side-characters end up in relationships in certain arcs. There's one succubus character. Some groping and other rather sexual scenes in it too. And in a few cases depictions of sex happening (in a brothel, for example.)
There's a lot of violence in this anime. From hearts being crushed by hands Killua-style, blood getting everywhere, men getting decapitated, onslaught, torture scenes, violence against women. The main characters are the baddies, okay? And all that happens around them is at least as bad as they are.
